Pitcher of the Year Alexander leads RedHawks to win over Winnipeg

WINNIPEG—Tyler Alexander allowed eight hits in eight innings to lead the RedHawks to a 8-1 victory over Winnipeg on Saturday night in American Association baseball.

Earlier on Saturday, Alexander was named the American Association Pitcher of the Year. Alexander set the American Association single-season strikeout record and also broke both franchise records for single-season and career strikeouts.

In Saturday's game against Winnipeg, Alexander struck out eight and allowed just one run. Josh Mazzola had four RBIs for the RedHawks, including a home run.

With two regular-season games remaining, the RedHawks (56-42) are one game ahead of Kansas City for the wild card berth for the playoffs. Only one team advances to the playoffs as the wild card.
