Letter: Alex Jones does not deserve a platform
Most of us, regardless of political affiliation, know the truth about Alex Jones. He is a lunatic and a fraud.
In general, all ideas deserve a platform. A platform that opens up these ideas to scrutiny, skepticism and tests of evidence. Better ideas can combat bad ideas and ignorance. However, this works when people use logic and reason. Most people follow facts to come to conclusions. Conspiracy theorists and their followers work the other way around. They shape their facts around conclusions they have already made. In other words—these are highly unreasonable people.
And that is the reason that the Alex Jones interview should not be aired. If Megyn Kelly exposes him for the fraud that he is, he will claim that the videos were deceptively edited. If Kelly lets him off the hook, he'll ramble on about how smart he is. At the end of the day it is publicity for this lunatic and his followers. A lunatic that has insulted the family and memories of 9/11. Let's not forget the insulting claims about the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting. And more recently, the allegations that led to the shooting at a pizzeria in Washington, D.C.
Megyn Kelly and NBC can do better than giving this man a platform.
