12 people arrested in major drug bust operation on Red Lake reservation

RED LAKE, Minn. -- Twelve people were arrested and Red Lake police seized large amounts of drugs, cash and stolen property while executing search warrants on the northwest Minnesota reservation last week.

According to a Facebook post made by the Red Lake Police Department, law enforcement executed the three warrants at three separate homes following a “notable” uptick in overdoses.

The first warrant, executed at a rural Red Lake residence Saturday, led to the arrest of four people: Janna Desjarlaid, 30; Dezirae Desjarlait, 31; Tessy Johnson, 28; and Jarrot Demarrias Jr., 28. The latter two were arrested on suspicion of child endangerment.

While searching the home, police found heroin, meth, cash and “items related to drug operations,” the post said.

The second warrant, served at a different rural Red Lake home Sunday, also led to the arrest of four people: William Cook, 25; Nichole Leigh Hanson, 23; Tiffany Haukaas, 24; and Kenneth Brun, 30. Police found drugs and cash, a stolen handgun and a person trying to dump “the product” down the toilet

The last search warrant, executed Monday at a “trap house,” netted meth and paraphernalia. Four people were arrested: Descart Begay, 34; April Jo Barrett, 42; Patrick Desjarlait, Jr., 29; and Kara Lussier, 32.

Except for Johnson and Demarrias, all those arrested were taken into custody on suspicion of either unlawful sales of a controlled substance or unlawful possession of a controlled substance, as well as other charges. Those with warrants will be extradited to the appropriate counties.
