Truck carrying 2,000 gallons of diesel catches fire on I-29

MANVEL, N.D. — A service truck transporting 2,000 gallons of diesel driven by a 27-year-old man from East Grand Forks, Minn., caught fire Friday, May 19, on Interstate 29.

Jacob Hendrickson was driving a 1987 GMC service truck northbound on I-29 about 1 mile south of Manvel at 5:30 a.m. when a mechanical problem occurred, said North Dakota Highway Patrol Sgt. Ryan Panasuk in a media release.

When he noticed the fire, Hendrickson drove the truck to the shoulder of the interstate and stopped, Panasuk said. The fire did not reach the fuel cargo of the service truck and no fuel was leaked.

The Manvel Fire Department extinguished the fire without incident and traffic movement was not obstructed by the fire, Panasuk said.

The Grand Forks Sheriff's Department assisted at the scene.
