Legal Services Of North Dakota Receives Grant From The Bush Foundation To Start North Dakota's First Medical Legal Partnership

Legal Services of North Dakota ("LSND") is pleased to announce it has received a $200,000 grant from the Bush Foundation. These funds, which were awarded under Bushs Community Innovation Grant Program, are for the support and development of a cross borders Medical Legal Partnership. The Medical Legal Partnership, known as Legal Advocates for Health, is collaboration between Family HealthCare, LSND, and Legal Services of Northwest Minnesota. Legal Advocates for Health are embedded in Family HealthCare in a collaborative effort to improve the social determinants of health for vulnerable patients.

Shanda Fisher, Attorney at Law, Legal Advocates for Health will lead North Dakotas first cross-border Medical Legal Partnership. Shanda participated in the Joint Degree Program in Law, Science & Technology at the University of Minnesota where she received a Juris Doctor and Master of Public Health in Environmental Health. Upon completing her education, she clerked for the White Earth Nation Tribal Court in White Earth, Minnesota. Shanda Fisher is licensed to practice law in North Dakota and Minnesota.

Bush Foundation Community Innovation Grants support communities to use problem-solving processes that lead to more effective, equitable and sustainable solutions. Think of it as civic R&D, allowing communities to develop and test new solutions to community challenges.
